ON POINT(s)-Kaiser vs. Hilton and the battle for #1 at the 2026 California Hot Rod Reunion

When our Top Fuel champ and challenger left the Nightfire Nationals at Boise in early August, it looked done...damn done. Tyler Hilton and the Great Expectations III team had

just won their 2nd straight event to go along with their March Meet win. 4 races, 3 wins.

For Pete Kaiser, it was a tough loss and his quest to ink the big numero uno on the side

of the KFR top fueler seemed done...damn done. Hell, after the event, Kaiser tracked the Hiltons down in the pits to congratulate them on their 5th straight NHRA Heritage

Top Fuel season championship. Points after Boise, Hilton-410, Kaiser-291...

Then came Redding...I ran into Pete Kaiser before the race, he's got a bunch of new stuff on the car and the 2 speed that would tire shake/beat his body up was out of the car. Time to start on next year's program and shake this set-up down. The results were not Kaiser-worthy. A best of 6.01 after 3 passes. Meanwhile in the Hilton camp, the outlaws were

killing it...a pair of 5.80's and #1 qualifier. Then before eliminations, KFR had enough of this

bullshit. Instead of throwing in the towel, they took a near 10 count and rose from the ring. Kaiser and his team decided to fight, to fight to the end.

It was an end and a beginning...Pete Kaiser drilled a 5.98, his only 5 second pass of the weekend and won the damn race beating Tyler Hilton in the final. At the top end, Hilton blew a tire, got in the dirt and crashed the most noble steel steed the top fuel world has ever seen. Kaiser pulled Hilton out of the car at the top end. The end and the beginning.

Kaiser with his win stayed alive in the points chase...more alive that you'd have ever thought.

There is thing about the Top Fuel points chase this year...you can drop your worst race. And this is where the game changed for Kaiser...he didn't make it to Great Bend, that's a drop. After Redding, KFR had 408 points with one race to count. Tyler Hilton-508 with no drops. His lowest point race is yet to be determined. And Hell, it still seems done, damn done. Here's the the thing...it ain't. But here's also the thing, there are no ifs, no ands, no buts....for Kaiser to win his first ever NHRA Heritage Top Fuel championship, he must win the

CHRR. WIN THE RACE. If KFR is the runner-up at CHRR, they will also be runner-up in the points chase. That's not all, they will need help. A win is mandatory, but is not enough.

You gotta hand it to the Great Expectations III team, they come to win and they never say die, even when it's dire. It would be too damn easy for Hilton to just sit the CHRR out, hell they have 508 points towards the championship. Anything short of a Kaiser win and they are the champs, even if they never come west to compete. You think that's gonna happen on the Hilton watch? Not a chance in hell. The minute they got home from Redding, the team was on the rebuild mode, the crashed chassis is toast for now. In it's place a 2020

chassis that is a near clone of the old, everything on the old is now on the new.

So the Hiltons will tow west to CHRR with an unknown entity, and give it a go. They are the only team that could pull this off...the outlaws will be ready to fight. Simply enough, Hilton needs to do one thing and one thing only to lock up his 5th straight top fuel championship...win 1st round. WIN FIRST ROUND. Well, maybe one more thing...he'd need to qualify now worse than 2 spots below Kaiser to lock it up with a first round win. Again, Kaiser has to win the race, Hilton has to win a round.

It's gonna be a great showdown, the Big Red Machine vs. Great Expectations 3.5...the longshot vs. the great unknown for one last dance in 2026.. Can KFR pull off their ultimate comeback? Can the Hilton's pull off their ultimate comeback? There will be many heavy hitting disruptors to face-McBee, Sorokin, Williamson, Hester, M. Hilton to name a few, all teams looking for their own comebacks in a way. But we do know this, it's gonna be awesome to see live. Damn awesome-Bain
